Uniqlo believe we have a responsibility to contribute positively to the societies we’re part of

"Engaging in societal issues is not only the right thing to do—it’s essential for building trust, relevance, and long-term relationships with our communities."

1. What does supporting Stockholm City Mission mean for your company?

For UNIQLO, supporting Stockholm City Mission is an opportunity to bring our Lifewear philosophy to life - creating simple, high-quality clothing that makes everyday life better for everyone. It allows us to contribute directly to the local community where we operate, and to help address urgent needs such as homelessness and economic vulnerability—especially during the colder months. It’s not just clothing donation; it’s to involve all members of our company from COO to store employees, engaging in a 360-degree manner to come together and make a tangible difference.

2. Why do you support Stockholm City Mission?

We support Stockholm City Mission because their long-standing commitment aligns with UNIQLO’s mission to improve people’s lives and contribute to a better society for everyone. Their work resonates with our values and our belief that clothing can be a force for good.
Personally, after volunteering several times with my colleagues, I’ve seen the real impact our collaboration has – from helping out in the daily operations at Matmissionen or the second hand stores, catering to thousands of people, to distributing HEATTECH , as part of our Heart of Lifewear initiative, the partnership has been a meaningful journey for all of us at UNIQLO.

3. What factors are important to you when choosing to support an organization like Stockholm City Mission?

We look for organizations that have a strong local presence, a transparent and impactful approach, and a mission that aligns with our own values. It’s important for us to collaborate closely and ensure our contributions respond to real needs – whether through clothing donations, volunteer support, or creating awareness through our local campaigns.
Stockholm City Mission’s deep understanding of social challenges in Sweden, combined with their hands-on work and long-term commitment, makes them an ideal partner for us.

4. Why do you choose to engage in societal issues?

As a global company with local roots, we believe we have a responsibility to contribute positively to the societies we’re part of. Engaging in societal issues is not only the right thing to do—it’s essential for building trust, relevance, and long-term relationships with our communities. It’s also a way to empower our employees and customers to be part of something meaningful.
Personally, working directly with communities has reminded me how even small acts – like offering warmth through clothing, can have a big impact.

5. How do you see the future with regard to social sustainability?

We see social sustainability becoming increasingly central to how companies operate. It’s no longer a separate initiative—it’s part of the core business. At UNIQLO, we’re committed to continuing and expanding our efforts, whether through donations, volunteering, or partnerships. We believe that long-term impact comes from consistent, thoughtful engagement.

6. Do you communicate your support and sustainability work externally?

Yes, we do. Transparency is important to us, and we want our customers and partners to know about the initiatives we’re involved in. We communicate through our stores, digital channels, and media. We also involve our customers in our social contribution work by carrying out top-up campaigns in our stores. UNIQLO matches the donations made by our customers, doubling the impact of their contributions.

7. What does your support for Stockholm City Mission mean to your employees?

For our employees, this collaboration has become a source of pride and purpose. Many have volunteered at Stockholm City Mission and shared how fulfilling it feels to contribute directly to the community and get a deeper understanding of the challenges people face in our society. Our employees feel proud to be part of a company that takes social responsibility seriously.
Personally, it’s been inspiring to see colleagues come together, not just as co–workers, but as people who care.

8. How do you follow up on your support?

We maintain close dialogue with Stockholm City Mission to understand the impact of our contributions and evaluate how our support can be most effective.
We have been reviewing the outcomes of the clothing distributions and volunteer activities on an ongoing basis, and we also gather feedback from employees who participate. This helps us ensure that our efforts remain relevant and impactful year after year.

9. What would you like to say to other companies that are considering supporting an organization like Stockholm City Mission?

I would encourage other companies to take that step. The impact is real, and the relationship you build with the community is invaluable. Supporting an organization like Stockholm City Mission is not only good for society— It’s a chance to be part of something bigger than business.
From my own experience, both as UNIQLO employee and as a volunteer, I can say it’s one of the most rewarding parts of our community investment in Sweden.
